  • Steve Jobs' widow Laurene Powell Jobs buys a majority stake in The Atlantic
  • Log files, rumors, and now listings in the iTunes Store are all pointing towards release of a 4K HDR-capable fifth-generation Apple TV
  • Spotify announces that it has 60 million paid subscribers -- over double the number of Apple Music subscribers
  • Developers find code pointing to a small multicolor display in the top of the Apple HomePod, which will be quite the powerful smart speaker

  • Users of Skype on Macs running older versions of OS X (pre - 10.9) can no longer use the business communications tool. Microsoft now requires users to be running Mac OS X 10.9 (Mavericks) if they wish to use Skype.
  • A pair of Apple stores in the northeastern US will reopen this weekend after major refurbishments that doubled their size
  • Apple News may soon be gaining ads, with publishers able to use major advertising platforms in their content

  • Bain Capital and a consortium of Japanese government investors snap up the Toshiba flash memory biz in an $18 billion deal

It's the first full day of Summer, and the living is really easy -- there's not too much to report from the world of Apple today:

  • Graphic files in iOS 11 seem to indicate where an embedded home button would appear on a bezel-less iPhone 8
  • One Wall Street analyst thinks that Apple is still having issues with that embedded home button and that the iPhone 8 will ship late
  • It's beta day! Beta 2 of macOS High Sierra, iOS 11, watchOS 4 and tvOS 11 all sowed up today, along with a new beta of Xcode 9.
